My name is Brenna Holeman and I drink a lot of whiskeys. No, wait. That’s not how I want to start. After nearly 100 countries over 12 years, many of them solo, I tend to write about travel a lot, but I write about other things, too: getting dumped, buying way too much jewelry, and yeah, OK, whiskey (none of those things are related, I swear). You’ll find a mix of advice, opinion pieces, and stories on this blog, but either way, I hope to make you want to read more.

Will the travel industry adopt white box AI?

Article | February 17, 2020

I recently attended a Venture Beat webinar entitled: 3 Keys To Moving Toward White-Box, Explainable AI. The panel discussed varying degrees of transparency in respect to understanding the output from artificial intelligence, the worst being a black box where the underlying decision is masked in AI algorithms. So what does this all mean? On the other, it will become even more a DIY world. Not connecting to the cloud? Well you’ll have to Google the issue and fix that. Contacts not loading? Same. Check in online, get to the airport, fix your bag tags and put them on the belt. Tech will become better and more frustrating all at the same time in 2020 and beyond.

Article | March 3, 2020

Airlines for decades often sought to fly the biggest aircraft they could on routes between the largest cities, pushing passengers through megahubs in New York, Frankfurt, London, Tokyo, or Dubai, where they could switch to a smaller airplane to take them to Nashville, Osaka, or Nairobi. Two new aircraft, the Boeing 787 the one on the Qantas flight and Airbus A350, however, have changed the model, and in the coming decades, more passengers will be able to fly nonstop to more places than ever on ultra-long-haul flights.
