Norman Tourism: State produces $258 mln in annual travel spending

According to the Norman state tourism department, it is the third largest industry in the state, and brings in hundreds of millions of dollars annually. According to VisitNorman statistics, Norman produces $258 million in annual travel spending, $74 million in annual payroll and $10.7 million in annual tax receipts.Last week, Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell, who also serves as Secretary of Tourism and Branding on Gov. Kevin Stitt’s cabinet, came to speak at VisitNorman’s annual tourism luncheon. He said he aims to raise those numbers by promoting the film industry, rebranding Oklahoma’s musical heritage trail, promoting the state’s Native American history, agritourism, and Route 66 — something he called an untapped gold mine currently operating as a hot mess.
