Billionaires Richard Branson and Jeff Bezos are set to fly into the final frontier on board their own spacecraft during the month of July. On July 11 at 14:30 GMT, Branson, founder of the Virgin Group, along with two pilots and three other passengers will lift off from Virgin Galactic’s operational base at Spaceport America in the New Mexico desert. His crew will reach a peak altitude of some 89km (55 miles) and experience a few minutes of weightlessness before making a gliding descent back to Earth.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has been felt across the globe. New research by climate campaign group Possible, which was published by the BBC, has found that a small number of frequent flyers dominated air travel before the pandemic with the vast majority only traveling domestically. In the United States for example, just 12 perent of people take 66 percent of all flights. That trend is also evident in other developed countries such as the United Kingdom where 15 percent of people take 70 percent of flights. Calls are growing from environmental groups for the implementation of a Frequent Flyer Levy which is a tax that increases the more a person flies each year.

EU Countries have agreed on a common approach to temporary restrictions on travel into EU and the possible lifting of such restrictions. Essential Travellers should always be allowed to travel inti the EU, independently of where they come from. All Persons who are travelling from any third country for an essential or non essential reason should have tested negative in a PCR test taken at the earliest 72 hours before.
