IDEMIA | November 27, 2020

Digital Travel Credentials make traveling between air terminals and aircrafts a more charming encounter and reinforces traveler trust in air terminal administrations and frameworks. On 10-11 November 2020, at the ICAO virtual meeting, IDEMIA showed with an aircraft partner its advancement innovation capabilities to introduce a completely operational arrangement, bringing DTC to life.

WTTC launches new cyber resilience report for the global Travel & Tourism sector

The World Travel & Tourism Council | April 23, 2022

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) launched a major new report at its Global Summit in Manila today, to help the sector's stakeholders understand how cyber resilience is shaping the Travel & Tourism sector and plan for a safer and more robust future. The report, 'Codes to resilience,' in joint efforts with Microsoft, draws on comprehensive research and in-depth interviews with cyber security experts in leading Travel & Tourism organizations such as Mastercard, JTB, and Carnival Corporation, among others. The report shows that whilst the COVID-19 pandemic has propelled the world and the sector into a more digital future, with the opportunities provided by digitalization, new challenges have emerged, especially in cybercrime. The inaugural report focuses on three key areas considered critical for the sector: cyber resilience, key issues and six best practices based on the lessons learnt prior to and during the pandemic. The report goes on to show how digitalization has become a strong enabler of business within Travel & Tourism, and given the international nature of the sector, it looks at the role of legislation around individual data protection. According to the report, more than seven out of 10 (72%) SMEs in the UK, the U.S., and Europe, have fallen victim to at least one cyberattack, and with SMEs representing 80% of all Travel & Tourism businesses, mitigating cyber risk must remain a priority for the sector. "Technology and digitalization play a key role in making the whole travel experience more seamless, from booking a holiday, to checking in for a flight or embarking on a cruise. -Julia Simpson, WTTC President & CEO But the impact of cyberattacks carries enormous financial, reputational and regulatory risk. This critical report reveals four key issues to address in order to improve cyber protection and enhance resilience: securing identity data, securing business operations, understanding the impact of COVID-19 and managing global legislation. According to the report, certain actions can help businesses better prepare to repel an attack, while laying the foundation to support long-term cyber resilience. Educating and training all staff, expanding risk security beyond the physical workplace, employing a zero-trust approach to cyber security, and transparency, among others, have been recommended by industry experts as good practices. Cyber resilience is a crucial element to the future of Travel & Tourism, as cyber systems continue to facilitate and enhance activities between the sector's stakeholders. During a panel session at the tourism body's Global Summit event being held in Manila today, industry leaders heard that cybercrime has cost the global economy $1 trillion and could reach a staggering $90 trillion by 2030. According to the WTTC Economic Impact Report, in 2019, before the pandemic stopped travel in its tracks, the Travel & Tourism sector generated more than $9.6 trillion to the global economy. However, in 2020, the pandemic brought the sector to an almost complete standstill, causing a massive 50% drop, representing a severe loss of nearly $4.5 trillion. Digitization has played and will continue to play a pivotal role in Travel & Tourism's growth and recovery from COVID-19. It is therefore essential for the sector to integrate cyber security and cyber resilience to continue its recovery from the pandemic while supporting its growth in the future.

Denver ranks among most popular holiday travel destinations

Business Journal | December 15, 2021

Denver is one of the top 10 most popular destinations by flight this holiday season, according to a new online travel agency survey. Among those planning to fly between Dec. 17 and Jan. 1, Denver is one of the most popular destinations — and one of the most affordable for booking hotels — according to a survey by RetailMeNot and Priceline. Denver ranks among other popular cities such as New York City, Orlando, Florida, and Las Vegas for flight destinations. However, the survey found that most travelers are taking to the road for holiday travel, at 75% compared to 41% who said they're traveling by plane. The survey also found that hotels in Denver are among the most affordable, at an $151 average nightly rate. That put Denver among relatively affordable hotels in Las Vegas, Pigeon Forge, Tennesee, Washington, D.C., and Kissimmee, Florida, Hotels in the Denver metro area are still struggling to recover decreased visitors from the pandemic. Statewide hotel occupancy climbed from 15.7% in April 2020 to 77.2% occupancy in July, according to the Colorado Hotel and Lodging Association. However, since then, occupancy has dropped again, particularly among downtown hotels. Meanwhile, Colorado is getting used to high air traveler volume, with Denver International Airport becoming the third-busiest airport in the world this year. DIA predicted about 2 million travelers to pass through the airport over the Thanksgiving holiday. AAA predicts more than 109 million people — an almost 34% increase from 2020 — will travel over the end-of-year holidays (between Dec. 23 and Jan. 2) in 2021. That includes people driving and flying, among other transportation. According to an AAA spokesperson, that number includes 851,900 predicted travelers from the Mountain region — including Colorado, Arizona, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming — this holiday season.

Outdoorsy Launches Two New Features to Make Travel Easier with New Trip Cancellation Coverage and PayPal Pay In 4 Offering

Outdoorsy | May 21, 2022

Outdoorsy, the most-trusted global online RV rental and outdoor travel marketplace, announced the launch of two new features designed for guests booking their next road trip – Roamly's Travel Insurance coverage and PayPal Pay In 41 offering. The debut of these features comes at a time when consumer sentiment around travel is vulnerable to inflation and rising costs at the gas pump. On April 1, Outdoorsy reported a 13% YoY growth in bookings for summer departures, a clear indicator that market conditions will have minimal impact on RV rentals as travelers are yearning to get on the road after putting vacation time on hold for the past two years. While other travel industries have seen dramatic spikes in cost over the past year in line with inflation, the average trip price on Outdoorsy has only gone up $5 since 2021, representing a .28% increase and further proving that RV vacations are one of the most insulated forms of travel. To help travelers experience the affordability of booking an RV, campervan, or trailer rental on Outdoorsy, guests will now have the option to reserve their rental and pay for it over time using Pay in 4 from PayPal. Pay in 4 from PayPal is currently available at checkout and lets guests break trip costs up to $1,500 into four interest-free payments with the first payment due at time of purchase and the remaining payments every two weeks following. This new payment integration allows budget-conscious travelers to book their trip today and drive off in their RV tomorrow — even before they're finished making final payments. "Ahead of a busy summer travel season, we want to give our community as many resourceful payment options and protections as possible, so finances aren't what's holding them back from getting outside, We're proud to be partnering with PayPal to introduce their Pay in 4 offering and we look forward to making these road trip experiences more attainable for travelers, as the service gives them the freedom to travel now and pay over time." -Outdoorsy's Co-founder and CEO Jeff Cavins. In addition to the launch of Pay in 4 from PayPal, Outdoorsy is also introducing Roamly's Travel Insurance offering to guests in an effort to protect them from unforeseen events. Through a first-of-its-kind partnership with RV-insurtech Roamly and International Medical Group (IMG), a leading travel insurance and assistance services company and fully owned subsidiary of SiriusPoint Ltd., a global insurance and reinsurance company, Outdoorsy is now able to protect and reimburse travelers needing to cancel a trip due to unpredictable circumstances — like a COVID-19 diagnosis. The new Travel Insurance product will cover policyholders needing to cancel a trip if they become sick or are hospitalized before the trip start date, as well as those needing reimbursement for an interrupted trip due to illness or hospitalization. COVID-19 and COVID-19 variants are treated as any other sickness on the Travel Insurance plans. More information on Roamly's Travel Insurance can be found online at https://www.roamly.com/travel-insurance.
