Arguably the most significant, systemic trend in worldwide tourism today is the demand for “experiential travel,” typically meant to convey the idea of more immersive, local, authentic, adventurous and/or active travel. Some people will argue that travel is inherently “experiential” by definition and that the phrase is overused, but the focus here is on the shift toward the mainstream. With travel consumer behaviors varying wildly in this space, it’s a matter of degree how we define and approach the overall trend.
